One of the First U.S. Attorneys to Defeat the U.S. Government in an Amparo

Bruce Tharpe was one of the first U.S. attorneys—along with Mexican co-counsel—to defeat the U.S. government in an Amparo, a Mexican criminal procedure that takes place when the United States files an Extradition Request.

Mr. Tharpe achieved victory for his client and defeated the U.S. government’s attempt to extradite by attacking the extradition request on several key points.

The Mexican government agreed with the argument, which was presented in Mexico City, and ruled in favor of Mr. Tharpe’s grateful client.
